Why Music Therapy?

Music is a universal language that crosses perceived boundaries such as age, culture and different levels of ability. It is a creative, flexible and calming medium that provides sensory experiences. It can facilitate cognitive functioning, social interaction, gross / fine motor development, communication and emotional well-being.

In Music Therapy sessions, music is created interactively by the individual and therapist. As a rapport grows between the individual and therapist, music can motivate the individual to work towards therapeutic goals. It can also help facilitate a Child’s achievement of developmental milestones.

To access Music Therapy, individuals do not need to have an ‘educated’ skill at playing an instrument. Rather, musical play occurs in a spontaneous and intuitive way. Music can be stable and predictable while being flexible and spontaneous. It is therefore, an adaptable medium for addressing a variety of unique needs.
